Military Moves and Deployments During the Holidays

military moves and deployments during the holidays

Milspouse Matters Episode 112

Let’s talk about facing a military move or deployment during the holiday season.

Are you dealing with a military move or deployment right smack dab in the middle of the “most wonderful time of the year”? You’re not alone. On this episode, let’s talk about ways to cope and give yourself permission to do what works for you and your family.

I’m sharing some tips from my experiences, and I hope they will help you be kind to yourself during this difficult time.

If you’re moving during the holiday season:

Give yourself permission to do what you can and not stress over what you feel is unfinished. If you’ve managed to make space to sit together and find room for a Charlie Brown-type Christmas tree, then I consider that a success!

If your spouse is deployed during the holidays:

I’m not certain that any words of mine will make it easier, other than the simple knowledge that someone else has been there and can completely understand what you’re feeling as Christmas approaches and the holidays are in full swing all around you…

Don’t feel you have to be “on” for anyone’s expectations (this is different to me than trying to make things better for your children.) I didn’t send cards, bake cookies, or feel obligated to participate in anything I didn’t want to. Give yourself that permission. Those who love you will understand.

Mentioned in this episode:

Whether you’re going through a military move or deployment during the holidays (or both!),
